When God Asks Us to Do Something from Nothing
I was a Bible college sophomore when I sensed Him leading me to Belgium for a summer doing mission work. But I was a student with big dreams and empty pockets.
Along with Sailor-Man, I have experienced many adventures in service of God around the world, both on land and on sea.

Work and worry blind us to the miracles around us. We rush through our days silencing the tasks calling for our attention, and we miss the delights before us.
When life’s journey takes a difficult turn, our emotions want to cry, “Unfair!” or “Why me?” But God’s Word directs us to take a different approach.
Storms will come and go. God’s promises help us navigate the wind and waves to a safe harbor. We can trust Him and not be afraid.
Soul care matters. If we’re in a healthy place, then we’re better able to help others who are struggling. So be good to yourself.
Take a few moments to reflect on this life-changing truth. The same God who crafted the heavens knows your name. He knows where you are this very moment.
Our circumstances may leave us feeling traumatized. But keeping our eyes on the unchanging Christ will help us weather the storm.
As we walk this road of change and uncertainty, let’s admit our strength is not enough. And make it our goal, to do it in the Holy Spirit’s supernatural power.
Waiting can either drive us crazy or become a rich experience that draws us into a deeper, sweeter walk with the Lord. We’re in control of the outcome.
You may feel comfortable when you’re in control of your circumstances. But things can get a little hairy when it feels like life is whirling out of control.
To which voice do you most often listen? Listening to the voice of truth banishes the darkness and leads us into the light where peace, healing, and hope reign.
We trust strangers every day. Why, then, do we hesitate to trust the One who knows everything about us and whose intent toward us is good?
We run into trouble when we let our focus linger where it shouldn’t, so the moment we’re aware of our lapse, we need to put it back on Jesus.
It’s easy to love, honor, respect, and serve others who think like we do. But it’s not so easy when we’re tired or with people who differ from us.
Scripture tells us to “keep our focus on Jesus”. Losing that makes everything go wonky, but keeping it helps us
maintain spiritual equilibrium.
The more consistently our gaze lingers on Jesus, the more our expression reflects His peace and kindness. And that’s what we want, right?
If you don’t already practice hospitality, I encourage you to do so. And, keep it simple. The more complicated we make it, the less likely we are to do it
We don’t see the big picture God is painting, but we have to trust He’s doing something that’s ultimately going to be good.
There’s the feeling of being held hostage by circumstances beyond our control. But I choose, by God’s strength, to give thanks in the midst of it.
As we consider our shopping lists and the great sales that come after Christmas, let’s ask God to help us keep His perspective.
Telling our faith stories to the younger generations is vital so that they might open their hearts to the Lord and learn to love, obey, and trust Him.
Jesus alone is our Anchor in life’s storms. Let’s hang on tightly to Him so that His sweet presence will draw us from darkness into the light of hope.
Giving thanks shifts our focus from our circumstances to the God who rules over them. It sets our mind to rest and frees us to see what God does on our behalf.
We can focus on the past and miss what He’s doing in the present. We can focus on our problems and miss His hope-filled promises.
Living on a sailboat is teaching me to release my expectations, cares, and desire for control to Jesus. He’s the Captain of my ship, and I’m along for the ride.
The Holy Spirit knows exactly what we need to live holy, fruitful lives. From the abundance of His limitless resources, He sees to it that our needs are met.
He says, “Don’t worry. A routine is nice and it’s comfortable, but it’s not the end-all. I am Your rock. I am Your stability.”
I’ve traveled more miles than I can count in the past four weeks. My journey took me to Hong Kong, Nepal, Bangladesh, Turkey, Poland, Belgium, and Iceland.
This is Gene’s and my fourth trip to Nepal in ten years. Each time we return I feel more at home. I love the people and am so blessed to call so many my friends
God’s unshakeable Truth helps calm fear. God is up to something far bigger than I can imagine; I will trust and not be afraid because He is with me.
The only thing that satisfies our deepest needs – our relationship with our Creator. He is what our soul longs for, and we’re designed for intimacy with Him.
Saying yes to God about living on a sailboat means letting go of nearly everything I own. It also means trusting God to provide for our needs in new ways.
God is up to something much bigger than I can possibly fathom. I suspect I’m about to experience His strength and provisions in new ways.
Whatever Your situation, know that God’s quietly at work behind-the-scenes. When the time is right for His grand purpose to be fulfilled, He will take action.
It’s our responsibility to share His love with others. Sometimes that requires sacrifice, but sometimes it’s shown in ways that might appear shallow.
Our Polish evangelistic camp ended last weekend. It never ceases to amaze me that relationships can run so deep in such a short time period.
